Comply™ Soft Wrap used as infant earmold

While working with an Audiologist at a Children’s hospital, Hearing Components, Inc. learned of the difficulty with infant impressions and the resulting tiny earmolds. Together, they came up with the idea that you could take standard #13 prebent earmold tubing and wrap it with Comply™ Soft Wrap foam to generate an earmold. See the sketch to the right showing the wrapping technique. It is important to have the bent portion of the tube cut to a safe length for the ear and to begin the wrapping process at the cut end while carefully covering the cut edge with the wrap. This protects against irritation. Two or more layers could be applied as needed. It is important to "roll" the foam small prior to insertion. We believe that many parents can be taught the wrapping and insertion procedure. Please click here for more information for parents.

Our estimate is that a wrap should last about a week or so. It would be changed at the first sign of soil or lifting or shifting from the tube.
